“Towards an empty sea” is a macabre tale of dark origins, metamorphosis, and a eery nightmare escape down a dying river towards an empty sea and nothingness.
Water and flight weave throughout the 3 chapters of the zine, “seep”, “night-flight” and “an empty sea”. There is an undercurrent of environmental concern throughout.
Text is contributed by the writer Claire Louise Bennett from a short story titled “What wishing was over”.
The project was featured in the 2026 Spring “Malaise” edition of "Source" magazine. In the feature, Niamh NicGhabhann Coleman wrote "his images are haunted by this sense of catastrophe, but his attention to beauty makes us want to spend time with them, puzzling out what these fragments of time might mean. They are like the plates in a book illustrating a long-ago legend, or an old ballad that was long-lost and then found again"
“Towards an empty sea” zine was included in the Dublin Art Book Festival, 2025, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin, Ireland, and the Tsundoku Art Book Fair, 2026, at the International Centre for the Image, Dublin.
