Mark Walsh is a lens-based artist living in Galway, Ireland. He is a member of the VAI and Interface Inagh. He predominantly works in black and white in digital and film photography.
His photographic work started in 2020 with a street photography project called “Raintown” which was recently exhibited in Galway and was described by Lens based artist and lecturer, Ruby Wallis, “it reveals the gritty reality of life here, a place where people live, work, travel, and exist in a state of economic precarity”. Mark “walks through the city like a dual poet and a detective, uncovering a myriad of existential, surreal, and Gothic elements in everyday life. Like the best photography, it’s back to the artist's psyche from which these images come.”
In 2025, Mark self published a limited edition zine titled, “Towards an empty sea”.
“Towards an empty sea” is a macabre tale of dark origins, metamorphosis, and a eery nightmare escape down a dying river towards an empty sea and nothingness. The publication was part of the Dublin Artbook Fair 2025 and the Tsundoku Art Book Fair, 2026, at , The International Centre for the Image, Dublin.
Mark is currently working on a zine with the working title “I nearly married a human”. It is a Sci-Fi tale of invasion, colonization, attraction and control.
